Gil Markovitz

I live by singing, dancing, and learning. These three actions are how I explore everything I encounter in this wondrous world. They allow me to express myself; and perhaps most importantly, when I am fully engaged in these actions, they lead me to embody what is so essential in life: movement and change.

Learning is the flexibility of the mind: being able to take in experience and information, delve into it and feel a spring of new questions burst forth. Dancing is the flexibility of the body: having the stamina and openness to invite unknown experiences, languages, and interactions, and then accept them and their implications. And singing is the expansion of the inner body: discovering more and more space for the air to pass through, renewing it and releasing creativity. Rediscovering the power of respiration.

It is from this experience that I approach the different areas of my life’s work:

making knowledge, no matter how complex, accessible for any audience; practicing and teaching movement and singing; and creating professional and artistic content, both movement-based and musical.

This drive is what led me to create original formats such as my musical lectures and podcasts; to continue studying singing and movement with teachers who are masters in their fields; to enrich myself with independent study and online courses; and to create performance pieces.

In-depth research is born out of deep listening. I believe that sharing the listening tools at my disposal – teaching them and making them accessible – is akin to teaching my audience to fish. I exist in an organic quest to stay present with the unknown, striving to keep exploring what I think I understand and renew myself with raw materials, insights, and an ever-growing list of questions.
